RE: VMs: Re: Moot points, getting long

However, one does often use EVA rather than other transliterations and
provide 'skewed' results:

	For example...

ee 5395
ii 4769
hh 84
oo 76
ll 34
ss 31
dd 25
aa 5
rr 2
yy 3
mm 1
kk 1
cc 1

Doublets should only count whole characters... problem has always been
what is a whole character (glyph- sorry GC). Therefore, the above count
doesn't
provide us with the data we're looking for when counting doubles. In the
'ee',
'ii', 'cc', and even 'hh' counts there are a lot of variations of actual
glyphs
being represented... iii (counts as a single plus a doublet rather than a
single
glyph?) - same for eee or ccc or cthh.

As a few of us have said before EVA is excellent for communication on the
list -
but we have to be careful about statistical analysis based on an EVA run
like above.

Borek, I don't have many references handy for Czech or Slovak - but double
consonants do occur frequently enough to be be different from the VMS; I
don't know
about double vowels in those languages off hand. Where it is possible a text
could
avoid using any words with double letters or double syllables - it isn't
natural for
that to extend to the length of the VMS without some of those words being
hit (and I
think almost all the doublets above (less the erroneous ee,ii,hh, cc) are at
the end
of a VMS word.

That is not really a problem. I have repeated Jacques vowel analysis in 7
different alphabets: Currier, FSG, eva, curva, gava, jsa and Frogguy with
minimal effort using Bitrans (typing 1 command line for a change of
alphabets).
I think that I could have done the same using a batch file.
So adding more alphabets is always welcome as the effort to convert between
these is really minimal.

Cheers,

Gabriel
