Hello all,
I'm new to the list and am still in the
process of reading through your (vast) archive (so far I've got through to
1996), so please forgive me if this has been mentioned before.
Has anyone considered the possibility that the
Voynich Manuscript's pictures might themselves be a code of some sort? The
possibility of the positions of the stars in the
astronomical/astrological/cosmological diagrams conveying some kind of secret
message has certainly been (briefly) mentioned before, but has this been
considered for the plants? Surely some sort of information *could* be encoded in
the positions of flowers and leaves, number of petals on each flower, number of
segments to each leaf, that kind of thing. Perhaps this could explain the
phantasmagorical qualities of the botanical drawings? I note that even the roots
of these plants tend to be broken into segments - again, perhaps this is to
convey a number (which itself could convey linguistic information)? Just wild
speculation, I know, but I wonder if it's been considered?
Anyway, I continue to plough through your archive,
which I'm finding endlessly fascinating, entertaining and educational. It's
great to see a corner of the internet that is not "disposable" and "throwaway".
Thankyou for making all this available online, it's certainly enriching my life
at the moment!
Regards and respect,
Tom
