absolutely right
this could be one of the most visible Finno-Ugric connection in VMS

many northern Tatars (living hand-in-hand with Finno-Ugric people) - 
like these from Khasan - still
strongly use birds in their mytology ... if I am not messing things up,
a "flying snake" or strnge bird is some kind of totem/herldic sign
for the city of Khasan
