That's not uncommon, for various reasons, even with longer passages, e.g.,
for artistic purposes. Since the VMs appears to be a notebook that
particular reason doesn't seem to be likely. More likely would be factors
like monomania, repeated observations, repeated stylized descriptive
passages, and so on.
However, since the examples cited seem to be quite short, and well
scattered, I suspect that if repetition is involved, it is simply a case
of a repeated word or short phrase. In short it doesn't seem to be
repetition of thoughts or material at all, unless I'm misunderstanding
things, but reuse of lexical items or of encodings of them.
