Synchronicity again! It so happens that I was just thinking of Feely. I had been thinking that there was a late 19th century free energy quack by the same name, and that our favorite publication had endorsed him.

After seeing these notes, I checked and found I had things a little mixed up. The quack in question was John Worrell Keely, and our favorite publication in fact debunked him fairly decisively:

This article concludes, "it is to be hoped that, once for all, the Keely motor may be considered to be exposed, though we have no doubt that, like the scotched snake, the tail may still continue to wiggle," as indeed it still does over 100 years later. Plus ca change...
