Re: VMs: Modern Voynich-like Script
Hi Steve and all
On this one I have to basically agree:
"In symbolic iconography, the star is used to indicate conception, as well as birth. The Virgin is
often represented with a nimbus of stars. The Virgin at Larmor (Morbihan) forms part of a fine
triptych, representing the death of Christ and the suffering of Mary (Mater dolorosa). In the sky of the central composition can be seen the sun, moon and stars and the scarf of Iris. The Virgin holds in her right hand a large star -maris stella- an epithet given to her in a Catholic hymn.
G.J. Witkowski (L'Art profane à l'Eglise, France, Paris, Schemit, 1908, p.382) describes for us a very curious stained glass window, which used to be near the sacristy in the old church at Rouen,
now destroyed. This window showed the Conception of St Romain. . "His father, Benoît, Counsellor
of Clothair II, and his mother, Félicité, were lying in a bed, completely naked in accordance of the
custom, which lasted until the middle of the sixteenth century. The conception was shown by a star, which shone on the coverlet in contact with the belly of the woman...The borders of this window, which was already strange enough on account of its main motif, were ornamented with
medallions on which one could see, not without surprise, the figures of Mars, Jupiter, Venus, etc.,
and, so that there should be no doubt about their identity, the figure of each deity was accompanied
by its name".

1986, page 56.

By the way his life and work was not totally unconnected to alchemy; for instance one of his
mottos was : "seule étoile" (the only star). Which is Voynichese enough, too!
Perhaps you will be pleased to know that in Beaune you may find this motto and that the word "seule" is written, but the "étoile" is represented by a star painted.
May the chancellor NR point us at the right direction; best wishes.
