Tried (hard) to, but there is only a vague resemblance. This may be caused
by the carving process or they are different symbols. I'm 50-50 on this.

May I ask what your source was for the Gothic alphabet? Perhaps Swedish Gothic circa 1500 might be noticeably different?


BTW, one odd thing is that the diagrams in MS 1577 are described as "solar calendars", yet the circular image shown is divided into 7 (rather than the VMs' 6), each of which is (apparently) divided into 4 (on the outermost ring), giving 28 divisions in total, which is surely more reminiscent of the lunar month than of the solar year?

The collection's description of MS 1577 talks of two (presumably separate?) solar calendars - perhaps the other one is more obviously a solar calendar than this...
