Re: VMs: Reasearching the VMs at Beinecke

Hello All,

I have completed 3 days examining the VMs. I have been informed that this has been a very rare examination for the amount of time spent with the actual manuscript. I thank the Beinecke Library and their gracious and somewhat painful toleration of my examination of the VMs. For reasons of preservation further examination has ended. There is a hightened sense of security surround the preservation of the VMs and all of the other rare manuscripts at the Beinecke which I understand and appreciate. I will focus on the contents of the boxes which accompany the VMs. Based on what I have seen, I will do my best to answer all your questions. At this point I will just not have an opportunity to go back and reexamine the manuscript. Twenty four hours of hands on examination is enought for this initial encounter. While I would like to continue this intimate relationship with the VMs, it is time to move on.

I would like to say that the only way to obtain a true appreciation for the physical manuscript is to view it in situ. I will spread out my comments and observations across multiple e-Mails to the VMs discussion group.

While actual copies made directly from the VMs would not be allowed at this time, I will put in a request for a "higher resolution" of the July label.

Hi Dana,

Could you get a higher-resolution image for the "july" label ?
What I/we have is a very small, illegible, bw image.
