Just a couple of comments on your reply to G. Damschen and his attempt at
translating F116V.

At present, I'm abstaining from passing judgement on the validity of
G.D.'s translation for the simply reason that I haven't had time to give
it the attention that it deserves. As to the author using to different
shapes to represent "S" in his text, this is quite common in both printed
and written Latin. The modern "S" that we use is generally found at the
end of words while an "S" that appears at the beginning or toward the
middle of a word looks more like a lower case "f" without the crossbar.

Try not to drop whatever you're holding Elmar, But I agree with you here :-O
These letters do look like an "n" to me as well. My reading of the first
word also varies, however. I see it as "anchiron". The tables in my
Cappelli show that the closest match to the sixth character is more like
an "r" than a "t". {Shades of Dante ... but wasn't there a centaur named
Chiron in the Inferno ;-)  }
As to G.D.'s reading of "cárcere", the first "c" looks to be the same as
the "t" in "portas" to me.
At best, the author wrote "abta", not "apta", IMHO.

I see "ahia", not "apta".



I'd be willing to accept this, though, if the prayer would make sense in the
overall context of the VM:

Even making sense in the overall context of the VM may not be the issue
here as it could be the Voynich author's version of the cute, little
saying that a few of us close our postings with and have nothing to do
with the text of the manuscript.
