I. THE OPENING AND THE LAW OF HIDDENNESS (Folio 1r)
"This is the solemn opening (Peticha) of the treatise on the foundations of nature. I, the collector (Leket) of this knowledge, bind these leaves in the year of completion [1438]. We have created this work not for the eyes of the unworthy, but as a refuge for the truth (Emet) in a time of darkness. Behold the parable of the farmer (Ikar): He sows the seed deep into the earth (Amok), hidden from the birds of the heavens. Only he who is prepared to dig shall find the root (Shoresh).
So it is with this book: Many will see only the outer shell (Taphel), the colorful image, and the foreign word. They will mock, for their minds are superficial. But to him who possesses the key of subtraction, the casing shall fall away like the peel from a ripe fruit. We warn you of the charlatans who roam the alleys of Prague and the markets of the South. They stir soups (Shorba) without understanding and call themselves scholars, yet they know not the signature of the plants. They do not heal; they only steal the time of the sick."
II. THE CIRCULATION OF HUMORS AND THE COPPER PURIFICATION (Folio 82r - 84v)
"Know that the body of man is an image of the great world, formed from the waters (Mayim) and animated by the breath of the spirit (Ruach). As the rivers of the earth water the land, so do the humors (Mohal) flow in secret through the tubes of the flesh. We have drawn these paths so that you may understand how the purification (Tohar) is achieved when the darkness of illness clouds the light of life. The blood (Dam),
