Interestingly this symbol also resembles the astrological quincunx aspect sign
(though I believe it probably postdates the VMS).

I've emailed Luke Andrews (c/o the contact@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx address you used): with luck, we should be able to get an opinion on the AAH from a proper medieval astrology expert (rather than an ersatz one like me). After all, the basic observation was his, not mine.


Also: not only are there issues of when symbols came into use, there are also issues of which astrological traditions used which forms of them at which times, all of which may be able to give us some perspective on the construction (and intent?) of the Voynich alphabet.

PS: now I look at it again, the single-loop gallows EVA k is *obviously* Saturn upside down: take away the right-hand stroke and you have an upside-down "h"! :-)
