VMs: Re: More shorthand trivia
Hi everyone,
If anyone else would like to visit the Carlton Shorthand Collection, here's
the reply I received from Alun Ford, the Historic Collections Administrator
at the ULL:
You are very welcome to look at the Carlton Collection. Only a
small part of it has been catalogued electronically but there is a
handlist (for both books and manuscripts) which you may consult.
If you are a doctoral student you may have free reference access
courtesy of HEFCE. If not, I'm afraid you will have to pay £7.00
for a day pass. Membership details can be found at
http://www.ull.ac.uk/library/membership.shtml.
We fetch Special Collections four times a day: 10.30am; 12pm;
2.30pm and 4pm. As we are in the vacation the current opening
hours are 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to
5.15pm on Saturday (closing for lunch between 1pm and 2pm).
You can find more information at
http://www.ull.ac.uk/historic/homepage.shtml.
I am away on vacation for the next three weeks but if you
speak to Jennifer Blake or Julio Cazzasa on 020 7862 8470
they will be able to arrange things for you.
I'm hoping to call in this Saturday afternoon. GC, if there are any
documents in the Collection you'd like me to examine in particular, please
say! (Though I'll try and get a look at everything remotely relevant
pre-1650 anyway).
I'll also try to make notes on the handlist, as it may take more than one
visit to get to grips with it all. :-/
Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
