Philip, you pages are great (although of course I don't agree with our
conclusion re cipher × chinese).
You say that Bernhard Bischoff mentions one medieval book written entirely in
code. That is big news! I have often asked whether such thing existed,
and never got any answers.
You see the point: writing in cipher is arduous work, so why would someone
take the trouble to encode a such a large amount of text (35,000 words)?
The fear-of-inquisition story is hardly convincing. So it would be
very useful to know more about that other example mentioned by Bischoff,
and what were the author motivations in that case.
