At times I wonder if the author of the VMs was attempting to apply his youthful imagination to weave a story within a story, as evidenced by his attempts to envision animal and other shapes in the flora. Then again, perhaps it is my own imagination that gets carried away. For example, in f46r I see hints of a three masted vessel complete with crows' nests and sails or banners flapping in the wind being pulled on its course to places unknown by a full set of oars.
