I agree that the number of points on a star would be the best
way of showing its magnitude.
Are there any stars shown with anything other than 6 or 7 points?
In the list I gave of just one VMS cosmo page, there were a few 8 pointed
stars. IIRC, earlier in the year I also catalogued all the stars in the
starred paragraph section, and in the zodiac section.
It may well be that there is a demonstrable one-to-one correspondence
between the number of points on a star in the zodiac section and the
corresponding star traditionally ruling that degree. This might be a good
way of definitively working out the correct zodiac nymph sequence! :-)
