Re: VMs: Re: The VMS "alphabet" and some other issues...

Thanks for checking those, Robert. I also live by Allen's "Star Names".
What a great book that would only have been better with included
charts...

You will want to look at F49v

I believe the characters on the left are numbers. They have a different
5 than you, but otherwise exactly the same.

note that 6 is r (2) with an e (4) swish (2+4 = 6)

8 is basically o (1) with a 7 swish

7 is 3 + 4

f49v too.

Two more bits of evidence:

I decided to look for the name Brahe on f67v1, using those
letter values you give above. That would be EVA <ola_ _>

The first word of the short line (four letters/five letters) to the left
of
the head
fits with <olar>. So <r>, besides having a number value of 2, may also
represent
h.

I also applied the above to the word beside the Pleaides; EVA <doaro>.
This
is al-bahb. The closest word in Star Names is "Baba", the Russian name,
meaning
"Old Wife".
