VMs: Bear with me...
Greetings,
My name is Clint Knapp. I've only recently begun
investigation of the mysterious Voynich Manuscript,
and this mailing list has been a big help. I'm not a
cryptographer and don't claim to be, I'm mearly
interested in the MS for it's contents. I first found
out about the MS on the World Mysteries
(www.world-mysteries.com) website. I was looking
around hopelessly when I found Big Jim's possible
translation of folio 1
(http://users.gloryroad.net/~bigjim/!_the_eye.htm).
I was reading his description of a deciphering key and
found it to be rather interesting and even practical.
I was wondering if anyone has looked more into this
method and if it is working or not. I realise the MS
is written in two apparently different ciphers and
this method may work for one and not the other. But
any information would be helpful.
>From just this mailing list (lurking for a few weeks
now) I've begun to understand a bit about cryptology
and entropy, which has been rather helpful. I have
found scanned copies of most of the MS pages on the
web (World Mysteries has a bunch of helpful links) and
was wondering if there is a PDF file of all of the
available pages located somewhere for printing.
I e-mailed the Beinecke Library and they wanted around
45 dollars for a photocopy drawn from microfilm. They
also stated the MS is set for preservation and can not
be digitally photographed for color copies due to it's
current condition. It may sound a bit cheap, but I'm a
college student and don't see the sense in paying so
much for a black and white copy.
Despite my age (20), don't take me for another kid
interested in something he can't understand. My
knowledge on obscure and occult subjects is vast, and
I have some knowlege of Gaelic, Hebrew, Latin,
Japanese, and Chinese, so I may be able to help in
some way as far as translation is concerned.
Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Y Bid,
Clint Knapp
