I agree that many of these glyphs are very common for the time
period. Some however, are not common at all, and at least four
have only ONE known source, English shorthand. These are the
compounds on 57v. There are also several other one-timers
throughout the manuscript that are not so common, but can be found
in early shorthand.
I'm working on a page for these along with my transcription. It's
a very tedious task, and I don't expect to be finished soon, but I
am at least making an attempt to document my studies in this area.
I find it to be an interesting and invaluable study, and one that
led me to recognize that the majority of glyphs in the Voynich set
have four variations.
Of course some of this may be considered by some to be random
selection. Just because a glyph has space before it and space
after it, and occurs that way many times, some still say we cannot
know this is indeed an individual glyph. I admit I'm a part of
that crowd as well, since I still can't decide whether "4o" is a
single glyph or a compound. The vast majority I can prove to be
individual to the reasonable person, but there are a few that
force me to keep an open mind.
Whatever, I hope these things cause some serious discussion, since
I learn a lot and get a lot of ideas from this list.
