Its time to make my first contribution here...

I don't think the image is upside down. If you look at how the lines are
written, 
It seems very much like they were written using a ruler with a very
precise spacing 
or very carefully by hand, or lined paper of some form - how long ago
did A4 first appear ?? :) 
Crucially, the words line up on the underside rather than the top. I'd
guess that 
most languages including Javanese, are written base-aligned rather than
top-aligned.

Forgive me for following up to my own message, but I should add that 
the image of the "Qusus Manuscript" appears to be upside-down.  Flip it 
over, and I'm certain that the script is Javanese.
