VMs: Fabre D'Olivet, Czech merlons, Voynich by Leonardo? (link)

> The Hebraic Tongue Restored by Fabre D'Olivet

That's funny. Last week in Prague I bought a Czech translation of the wonderful book by Umberto Eco
"The creation of Europe, The search for the perfect language" (La ricerca della lingua perfetta
nella cultura europea, 1993). Every one of our players is mentioned in this book: Lull, Kircher,
Dee, Postel, Agrippa, Paracelsus, etc. I learned a lot from it about the context of the times.
Everyone on this list should read it :-)

On Fabre d'Olivet he says: "It is futile to follow Fabre's wild project : his etymologies go the
same way as those of Duiret, Guichard and Kircher and are even less convincing."

But the funniest citations in his book (I haven't finished it yet) is about Kusánsý who in his "De
pace fidei" (1453) proposed a eucumenical deal where the muslims and jews would accept the truth of
the Gospels, but all Christians would be circumcised :-)

I have independently verified that the (current version of the) Prague castle has swallow-tail
(Ghibbeline) merlons. I'll post the picture as soon as I can digitize the video tape.

Do you know this link: http://www.edithsherwood.com/

Most of the experts indicate that the manuscript dates to the second half of the 15th century. I
postulate that Leonardo da Vinci wrote the Voynich Manuscript circa 1460 when he was about 8 years
old. If I am correct Yale University has a very valuable manuscript that should be of great interest
to Leonardo da Vinci scholars. (Edith Sherwood Ph. D.)
