VMs: Re: The first of the Russian letters at the Grolier Club
This is an update to my previous posting.
A native speaker of Polish identified that what I misread "Trzy palce
do czota" should really be read "Trzy palce do czola" with a slashed "l"
which indeed resembles a "t" to non-Polish eyes.
With this correction, the meaning is "three fingers to the forehead",
as in a military salute, and this makes perfect sense. So "Mum" is
probably a nickname for a superior.
Still no idea about the other open questions in this letter, though :-(
