VMs: Possible ways to generate VMS like text
Here's the best I've been able to come up with yet - I submit them in
the hope that those more qualified and capable than myself can show me
to be completely wrong and I can move on to finding other possibilities.
Possible ways to generate VMS like text (please read in plain text)
A B C D E F G H I K L M N
t b tt tb bt bb ttt ttb tbt tbb btt btb bbt
O P Q R S T U W X Y
bbb tttt tttb ttbt ttbb tbtt tbtb tbbt tbbb bttt
imagine a key with two rows, as above - to write the word CAT
one would find that 'tt' corresponds with C and select two letters
from the top of the top row making sure the first is to the left of
the second eg1 'HK' or 'FG'
The next letter in CAT - A, corresponds with 't' - pick any letter
to the left of the last one you picked for C from the top of the
top row eg. 'E' or 'D'
The next letter, T, corresponds with 'tbtt' - that's one from the
top, one from the bottom and another two from the top - making sure
that the first letter selected is to the left of the last one you
picked for A and the following ones are to the right of the preceding
ones eg.
'CPFK' or 'BWLM'
putting it all together CAT could be written as;
HKECPFK or FGDBWLM or many other ways.
To decipher one would keep reading until one comes to a letter that is
to the left of the preceding one in it's row and consult the key.
eg. HK = tt(both on the top row) = C
E = t = A
CPFK = tbtt (top, bottom, top, top) = T
Now, use randomly placed spaces to obfuscate, and make some rules for
word seperators - use variations or different symbols or ......
When doing this in practice one tends to start to the left of a row and
as the line goes on move towards the right of it to add variation -
giving you the more structured beginnings of lines that get 'messier'
towards the end, as in the VMS. You also get certain letters more
frequently following others and you naturally use certain sequences
more often than the many other possible choices giving the encoded text
a 'language' like appearance.
A Second Method - and as silly as it sounds, don't dismiss it until
you've tried it.
1. Have a few beers
2. Find a language that you are familiar with the sound of but cannot
speak or can only speak a very little of.
3. Find a younger, attractive member of the opposite sex that is also
familiar with the sound of this language but cannot speak it.
4. Try to impress your younger, attractive member of the opposite sex
by convincing him / her that you are demonstrably fluent in this
language by speaking it often, insisting that you recite traditional
love poems etc..
5. If at first you are unsuccessful try again - you improve with
practice.
6. Record the results, invent some symbols to represent the sounds you
made and write them down.
You will find that you have a load of rubbish that has many of the features
of the VMS. Notably when you hit an authentic sounding sound or group of
sounds you tend to repeat it only changing the beginning or the ending,
adding to it or modifying it slightly. And, what often starts off as a well
ordered line can get rather messy/unstructured towards the end as you
desperately struggle to make it sound convincing.
It is Saturday - I see no reason why you all can't go out on the town,
try this and report back to the group first thing Monday morning.
And, I'll repeat - as silly as it sounds, don't dismiss it until
you've tried it - the above description is a little 'tongue in cheek'
but if I had to put money on the way the VMS was created, I'd reluctantly
have to go for this one.
ciao for now
Chris
