Whoa! I'm really surprised to discover that this is the 'most
common' idea out there. I was under the impression we were making
real progress here! There have been many mentions of the VMS as
an 'alchemical herbal', nothing to do with actual alchemy, but an
alchemical manuscript to produce the "elixir of life"? Sorry,
Francois, not a chance on that idea.

I assume you're speaking of the idea of cabbalistic representation
here, so let me point out that virtually *all* western
representations of cabbalism are not in keeping with 'true Jewish
tradition'. It's obviously western, and IF it is cabbalistic,
then we can also assume that the author was not a Jew, but a
Christian.

IF, again, you are speaking of western tradition, and not some
long-lost tribe in the middle ages, then your view as represented
is misguided at best. There is no togetherness in the middle
ages. There is no goal of life, no understanding of Gaia, and
certainly no discussion of evolving or evolution in any form.
What you paint here is a "nature" cult, when this is totally
opposite of what the christian world was all about. Biblical
commands were to subdue the earth, not to live harmoniously with
it. ALL things pointed to God, and God was represented in all
things. ONLY men had souls. Dogs, cats, and sometimes debatably,
even women did not have souls, and therefore had no standing in a
man's world. (The soul of a woman was sometimes debated because
biblical passages infer that women gain their grace from their
husbands, and therefore it is not bestowed upon them individually
by God.)
The heavens, the planets, the sun, and the moon, imparted Godly
influences into things like plants, dogs and cats, lizards,
salamanders, and even stones. A plant had no healing power
itself, and a stone could heal equally as well as a plant, if the
celestial influences were in correct positions.
Your view of medieval Europe is totally out of synch with
everything I've read and gathered on the subject.
