This problem with VMS scans has been going on for some time.  Have you
checked to see if Beinecke has this page avaiable for purchase as a color
slide or transparency?  In many cases, even when it is not available
digitally, it is available in some other format.  At $35 an image, if each
of us purchased one color slide or transparency, we'd pretty well have the
whole thing available without having to jump through hoops.
