The key may not even be a straight forward substitution. It might have a
calculated element. A form of compression even, which would explain the
shortness of the words. The author either put NO real meaning in the text,
or he was damn sure he wasn't going to let anyone else read it. Well in the
second case I call him an absolute genius. I won't tell you what I would
call him in the first case.

<END snip....)

Call me whatever you like, but you may *see* the 1/2 of IT already!

I've been 'in first case' here since Oct 6th 2000 Trying to
explain the second case (ha.haa)

One thing that "shouldn't happen" in _folding_ or mirroring the
_gallows_ characters CODE is the occurence of side by side gallows!

BUT, they DO exist (1/2 spaces not included?) in at least two places
if not three in the VMS.

I think it was Gabriel Landini who pointed out to me side-by-side
gallows in

f104v.17
f113v.21

and I personally suspected f49v

This is NOT what should occur, unless one considers 1/2 spaces
literally? f49v can be "excused?" as in Number?, then the second would
be a codePAGE gallows 'pointer'. (as it is the START of an index page
etc..)

f014v.17 and f113v.21 are "different critters" (so to speak).
If there is not a space (real) between them, then one should look at
the "words" entire length. They are similar that respect = (clue?)

Thinking if one wants to hide a word like "ZOO or THooth" with double
letters,
you could easily change the 1st "O" (zOo) to a gallows/mirror
character. But why hide the second character?

IF it helps the sceptics out there, I'm one of my own worst critics if
it doesn't work here. (Folding it etc..)

1) either we have 2 gallows side-by-side (no 1/2 space or typo/rushed
scribe entry)

f104v.17 falls into this category, as they are BOTH eva T's (8chars?)
(typo?) as in Zoo and ZZoo would read ok by us nowdays.

2) the "word" is so sacred or special it merits double/doubling.
   (~hummmMMmm that is too -=se/es=- weird too?~)

f113v.21 (9chars?) may yield to an actual space on closer scrutiny.
(and the script is small and tight on this page to begin with.)

hope that helps
