I am sceptical of any influence of the Kabbalah on the VMS, too,
but your argument is not sound. The paths mapped to the 22 letters
of the Hebrew alphabet and were originally in the Tree of Life.
Even the rendering of our eminent friend Athansius Kircher
shows them with corresponding letters:
