BTW, Rene's paper refers to a 1992 paper by Mary D'Imperio: though this had 
fallen off the web, I pulled a 1996 copy of it out of The Wayback Machine ( 
http://www.archive.org ), and placed it on GC's site:-

This paper is more letter-based than word-based, which is (to me) a bit of 
an improvement - however, as I neither believe that words are aligned with 
words nor believe that letters are aligned with letters, most statistical 
analyses done to date fail to cast any light on what I'm looking at. Oh 
well - perhaps I should look for my keys under the lamp-post instead. :-)
