Indeed you have something of a face there, and it does not seem to match the pattern...

Speaking of facial features, the "S" nose/eyebrow drawing pattern appears to have been used as early as 1274 - one can find a good dated example of it in Robert Bartlett's excellent "Medieval Panorama" (ISBN: 0892366427) that is profuse in pictures of medieval manuscripts.
