FWIW, I'm considering writing some JavaScript to let people design
state-machine-like models and test them against a filtered section of the
VMs (ie, a page, a folio, Language A, etc).
Statistically, it may well be that different models' fitnesses could be
assessed using a measure such as BIC (Bayesian Information Criterion). That
should give us the ability to make evaluations like "the OKOKO model is the
best current model we have for <section X>".
However, I'll be reviewing all the Hidden Markov Models first: it may be
that running HMM-finding algorithms on carefully pre-pairified text gives
different results to what we've seen before...
