Oh well - it may seem futile, but I'd still would like to see one such

As a rule of thumb, the historians of astrology I've talked to don't seem
to have a great deal of interest in iconography - their interests are more
to do with either ancient astrology, Arab astrology and/or medieval
fatalistic astrology, or modern (Ficino-esque) psychological astrology.
I'd also say that they tend to be interested more in the history of
astrological ideas than in the history of astrological representations.
IMO, you may well have rather more luck trying to contact collectors of
15th Century German calendars, as this iconographic connection with the
VMs' "zodiac" has been strongly suggested in the past (ie, that the central
designs may have been copied from such a calendar).
I suppose the game will always be afoot and we'll just have to deal with
the fact that we'll never get anything remotely like a library card saying
"on this date, VMS author checked out this work".
Although... who knows?
Perhaps the Bishop of Brescia's secretary kept a list of visitors (to see
what we now call Vat 1291 Gr.) in a log? That might help narrow it down...
you never know! :-)
Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
