VMs: Re: Folio f9r

Hello David,

Thank you for your observations concerning f9r. I believe that I detect the similarities of Geranium robertianum that you see in comparison to the plant drawing in f9r; however, it does not seem to me that these similarities are sufficient enough to verify the match. I have been considering Botrychium as a possible match where there seem to be additional features that warrant consideration. Notice how the author of the VMS has drawn the leaves to possibly resemble some kind of animal (they seem to remind me of clowns in pajamas, though they are more likely drawings reflecting what might be seen on certain flags or banners). There are other plants where the leaves appear similar to the drawings (e.g., Pelargonium), though so far I have not seen any plants that match the f9r drawing any better than Bortrychium.

Regards,
Dana Scott

Botrychium oneidense: (Bluntlobe Grapefern; Sceptridium oneidense)

Botrychium lanceolatum: (Triangle Leaf Grapefern; Triangle Moonwort)

Other Botrychium:

Pelargonium:
The leaves of Pelargonium also shows certain signs of similarity to the drawing in f9r:

Subject: VMs: Folio f9r

Still keep on analysing some pages in order to find something that can give
us a clue....:-)

On folio f9r the plant represented it seems to me quite similar to Geranium
Robertianum a typical plant that could be found in Europe, Northern Asia,
Northern America and also in Northern Africa. It has been used, and also
nowadays to treat dysentery and nephritis.

Does someone have found any other "real plants or herbs" similarities in
addition to the already hypothetical "sunflower", "red pepper" and so on?

By the way I'll keep working also on the folio f68r3 for getting more
relations with the other stars represented....thanks to Nick Pelling, Larry
Roux and Don Latham for their help and suggestions....:-)

David Bianchi
