Have you tried to quantify these similarities more thoroughly? That is, have you compared the frequency of the glyphs following each, compared word-lengths of each group, compared them in different sections/hands/etc, compared them with the first word of each line excluded, compared them with the first line of each paragraph excluded, etc?


What these variants are? We can only guess, but
the fact that this 'happens' must somehow be
part of the code/language.

Here's an idea: perhaps we could develop an "anomaly check-list", comprising suggestions for tests to try out in order to understand what causes the anomaly? This might help us move from <noticing what happens> (behavioural insight) to <modelling when / where / how it happens> (systematic model). Just a thought. :-)
