well, to tell the truth, I don't believe, VMS comes from New World.
But I am quite sure, the word "okey" was used (in modern meaning) on huge 
territories when english-speaking settlement arrived in Texas. I am not so sure, 
who picked it up - merchants or cowboys. It is believed, the world could 
originate from the language of choctaw Indians (today about 15'000).
