Re: VMs: Rotae, VMS-glyphs, Opicinus and Friedman - on line now

Hi everyone,

I think this is a "must read" document. If you're interested I'll try to get
*all* the pages of this chapter. Now I've only copied the pages with the
pictures.

This is definitely a *must read* document: I've seen many of the diagrams separately, but this brings them together into a single coherent account - *highly recommended*. Thanks Petr! :-)

I've put up a very good treatise (in German) on Opicinus de Canistris. This
is a well documented person who made an original "freak" document on his
own. He may be interesting to get a better profile of the VMS-author:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~kazil/opicinus.pdf (2.3 M)

BTW, "Atlante Storico di Milano, Citta di Lombardia" by Virgilio Vercelloni also includes a circular map of Lombardy by Opicinus de Canistris(page 27). The reference given is:-

Opicinus de Canistris, la Lombardia, da <<De Laudibus
        Civitatis Ticinensis>>, c[irc]a 1320, disegno manoscritto,
mm. 397x345. Roma Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana.

Perhaps 100 years too early, but he's still definitely a contender. :-)

Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
