You are correct. The method he presents is based on
the known statistical properties of the VMs text.
These statistics were obtained by Stolfi (which
Gordon clearly acknowledges), and I am sure that
Stolfi used means that were not available to Kelly :-)
Thus, in my opinion, he presents a method to copy
the VMs. Not one to generate it.
Had there been some clever structure to the tables
out of which the VMs properties arose, it would
have been a far more interesting theory, in my
opinion.
This is one of my two main objections about his
method.
