Subject: Re:VMs: Books on Czech cryptography
Hello all,
I'm from Slovakia in the Middle-Eastern Europe, from town Trnava,
aka Slovak Rome, and I am newbie in the Voynich family of fans, and
I would to subscribe to the your mailing list and willing to answer the
previous asks about Czech cryptology papers and books. My favourite
hobbies are cryptology, history of Catholic Church and comsec aka
computer and communications security. I found about article
Ryba, B.: K tajnemu pismu v listech Husovych, Sbornik historicky 1,
1953, s. 56-52 (there is little bit error in indexing of pages, It should
be rightly, pp.46-52) , this information: Jan Hus have been used in
his own letters to the friends of heresy an ancient Caesar/Augustus
cryptographic system aka simple substitution of vowels by the
following letter in the normal ordered alphabet and in the few places,
even strenghtened by mirror-reversed letter alphabet e.g. l = j, d = b.
There are examples in the historic literature of cryptology, from 9-th
to 11-th century is knew as follows: Kbrplxs=Karolus,
Thfpfklbctxs=Theofilactus, a Rbkmxndxs=Raimundus. See also
Bernhard Bischoff, Ubersicht uber die nichtdiplomatischen
Geheimschriften des Mittelalters (Sonderdruck aus Mitteilungen des
Instituts fur Osterreichische Geschichtsforschung Band LXII), Graz
1954, Aloys Meister: Die AnfÃnge der modernen diplomatischen
Geheimschrift : BeitrÃge zur Geschichte der italienischen
Kryptographie des XV. Jahrhunderts, Paderborn : SchÃningh Verlag,
1902.
Best regards, Jozef.
