The signature was already faded at the time
it was discovered. Voynich reports that it
was discovered as the result of an accident during
photographic reproduction. It required a combination
of chemicals and special illumination to make
it visible. The effect of the chemicals has however
been that the text is now no longer visible.
The pictures that were taken at the time, which
show the signature, are still at the Beinecke.
While it is not necessarily suspicious, it is still
a bit curious.
Cheers, Rene
