_all_ (vellum) folios were ~folded~ to create the vms!
these were "stitched" through the vellum to make _our book_.

what else "~folding~ is going on?" (my personal bias) is just INTO the 
character (folded/pointing) construction itself.. 

i think, ((believe/know) - or was told/per ES)), the "trick" is to SEE  
the mirror image of _THE FOLDing technique_ !..


if your just talking about pages of the vms that are "_CENTER FOLDED_" 
or folded in odd ways... i will resort to the experts here, as i know 
some pages ARE MISSING in the manuscript. 

the unique "key" produced by _folding_ of this type of "cryptogram"
can only be UNdone if one follows its authored order! 

actually it's SIMPLER THAN YOU THINK ex: 1.2.3.4 = 4.3.2.1 ????!!!!
(just maintain the order of the existing _gallows_).
