Re: VMs: Folio and Quire numbers

Hello,

It is interesting that quire numbers (available at
http://www.voynichinfo.com/quires/quire_marks.html) make
sense as latin abbreviations of ordinal numbers. Somewhere
else I read that "9" was common abbreviation for "-us", so
we have:

1: Pm9 (priMus)
2: 29 (secundus)
3: 39 (tertius)
4: 49 (quartus)
5: 5'9 (quintus)
6: 6'9 (sextus)
7: 7m9 (setiMus)
8: 8u9 (octaVus)
9: 9n9 (noNus)
10: 10m9 (deciMus)
11: 11m9 (undeciMus)

Quire numbers for 12,16 and 18 are missing. Quire numbers
13,14,15 and 17 are written as the number plus "9". Quires
19 and 20 are just the numbers. Note the consistent use of
"m", "u" and "n" before "9". Quires 5 and 6 have a small
sign before "9", which could mean "t", but it is missing in
"49".

Regards,
Marcio.
