and there are at least 2 ways here:

1) an unknown imaginary world in somebodys mind.
It seems to contain something of Jean Jacques Rousseau,
a bit of zoroastrism, some typical desert dreams (like
babes in imaginary fountains, under pictoresque trees)
etc

2) a lost world ... could be this one of
XVth century Krim, ruled by Genovan colonies (cities)
and Tataric cavalry (there Khans was quite known, btw
it seems, they had a family tradition to plunder
the city of Moscow - this was a Great Century for
them in many ways) ... or a bit more elongated 
Khazan ... and there could exist more ways.
