Re: VMs: VOYNICH CATALOGUES

Hi Jean-Yves,

My approach is of course based upon the astronomical/astrological part of VM. Perhaps you too know that there is a "legend" about N. meeting in Italy an Italian physician specialised in medicinal herbs short before the first publication of the Centuries/Prophecies.

I don't know that legend, sorry: however, what Wulfing von Rohr's introduction (to the 1996 English translation of Dr Hieremias Martius' 1572 [Augsburg] German translation of "The Elixirs of Nostradamus", edited by Knut Boeser: Moyer Bell) says (page xix) is that Nostradamus "spent the years from 1538 to 1544 on the move. He travelled northwards as far as Lorraine, eastwards to Venice and to Sicily in the south. ... he increased his knowledge through numerous meetings and working togetehr wiyh alchemists, astrologers, sorcerors and members of secret societies".

BTW, page 43 says:-
Dear Friendly Reader, at this point, not without very good reasons,
I have omitted from my translation into German the eighteenth
chapter, because it teaches such things as are not fitting for a
Christian or God-fearing man to know and I therefore felt it better
not to make any mention of them.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what was too terrible for the good doctor to translate?

Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....

PS: I perhaps should also admit here that I'm one of those dreadful people who has rather more faith in Nostradamus' recipe for quince jelly ("fit to be set before a king") than in his quatrains... :-o
