yes, I especially find the  sharpness  and colors with Geomatica really better. For those, who would like smaller standalone, there is    Mr SID Viewer at: 

http://atlas.lsu.edu/doqqhelp/helpDOQQBody.htm

It is fast and you can do some operations - you can pan, measure, and copy to clipboard - and  it is not just a plugin.
