Are you sure it is in English? Could it be in another language?
That is why I think it is extremely difficult to crack.

With the information I gave I do not believe it can be cracked.
If you knew the language I don't think that the whole text would become 
readable either. :-/

This surely makes the 'hoax assumption' less credible.
