Re: VMs: Full-Size Jpg's

It is nice to have a full set of high resolution pictures but most of the disk space required is for broad expanses of green paint and blank vellum: nothing that cannot be appreciated on an 8X jpg. All the parts of pages under discussion could be on one website by way of ready reference for people who are on the long end of their "last" computer. The site could be restricted if the host has misgivings about displaying images to the public. It would allow for examination of a few SID's at a time on a smaller disk, downloads of manageable sizes, and for a full set of 8X jpg's on that disk that are useful in themselves.

I do not think there is any special reason to keep an image in tiff format if there is no future alteration to be made and disk space is limited. About converting to jpg, is there any advantage to having a jpg the size of a sid rather than the sid, itself?

I have seen 4X & 8X jpg's at the Beinecke site, no other jpg's.
Are you sure others were ever available?

Yes. I got a few from Seth's mirror site when it was
up; I also believe Gabriel mentioned these as well. They are much larger (~4Mbyte, about the size of the
sid's. They have more detail than the 8X do. I'll try
what Eric says, but my system is rather limited; I
wouldn't be able to handle 60M tiff's.
