Well, yes, I does seem strange, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if
there were a connection here. We really don't know much about the extent of
his "imprisonment". I believe he attempted to escape twice, being only
successful on the third attempt. There was a large contingent of Polish
exiles in Irkutsk at the time. They even built a Catholic Polish church
there. Voynich befriended at least one family there, and I am beginning to
think that he may have also had distant relatives there. There true reasons
for the connection, if there is one, are unknown. Perhaps he was poking fun
back to the Russians? Who knows?
