For a nice approach to the argument, everyone that hates computers should read the (very) old (but still good) article: "Computer Recreations: A progress report on the fine art of turning literature into drivel" by Brian Hayes on Scientific American (1983/11).

For a more classical approach type "markov chains" on your favourite search engine.
