I think that might depend on when the gospels were written.  I think
scholars believe they were written several hundred years after the events
depicted or purported to be depicted, so that, unfortunately, he was dead
by then.  Perhaps they were actually written by another fellow of the same
name (thanks and a tip of the hat to ... hmm, P.G. Wodehouse?).
