Dear everyone,
There is a strong connection between magic, and/or astrology, and/or alchemy and VMS. Even if it s a hoax.
Discussing all three sciences or pseudo-sciences if you want in the light of their connection to VMS and its supposed actors is IMO quite valid; this should not offend anyone.
I am not convinced BTW, Rene, that alchemy was/is a sort of proto-chemistry, and I suspect that the same opinion could be dared about astrology as a would be proto-astronomy.
At the end there is no big difference between the above kind of approach and the cryptanalysis: you have to discover the meaning or the structure of the riddle, and certainly with an inside and perhaps a sympathetic view. What were Dee, Kelley, RII, Marci, Kircher, etc really thinking? What was their Weltanschaung or vision of the world?
If you dont know, you will not, I am afraid.
Best regards,
Jean
PS I too support for the same reason the study of a possible connection of VMS with Dante. The latter is more in tune with VMS people mentioned above than for instance a modern rational scientist.
Thanks, Ernie, I will read your paper carefully, and come back to you later on, in or out of the list.

Maybe you did not mean to write it the way this
sounds. Is anyone interested in alchemy disqualified
as being "serious" enough to discuss astrology?
To me, alchemy is a precursor to chemistry and
physics as we now know it, and astrology is
a precursor to astronomy as we now know it.
I could go on about this, but will not, since possibly
I misunderstood what you wrote.
As regards Elmar Vogt's comments: yes,
astrology
is totally relevant to the Voynich MS, and this
is an unmoderated list, but I also got the impression
that the discussion was digressing a bit. I had
in fact stopped reading these E-mails until a new
name (Elmar's) appeared with the same subject
line :-)
Cheers, Rene
