As a start, I think it is time for a clear reminder
about net-etiquette, or at least the part that is
relevant here. People who deliberately violate it
can be warned and if necessary have posting
rights removed.
Occasional digressions have happened many times
over the last years, and have never been a
problem. It is extreme now. Is it the start of a
new college year? This used to be a feature of
Usenet....
Not responding to off-topic posts should
help in reducing them.
Responding off-list is also possible.
If the originator takes it back to the list
*deliberately*, it is a clear violation of etiquette.
So is holding private discussions on a list with
hundreds of members, or ignoring the carefully
phrased warnings from the list administrator.
Nobody will be harrassed for honest mistakes.
I wouldn't be on this list anymore in the contrary
case :-)
