This is a more interesting find than I first thought - lots of VMSness. Check out the pair of dice on 47v, with corresponding table of letters and numbers. Why would an astronomer need to roll dice? The left column goes up to 19 (which of course is 1523 - 1505 + 1), and so I wonder if there is a connection with the Table to the left of the diagram with the spiral, that you were interested in.
